Crazy charges…
I just saw the bill for my son’s routine blood-work. $1400 ($890 was just one test). And we do this several times a year. The expensive test is a quantitative test for a virus, so somehow they separate that specific virus and actually count it, so I understand the high cost.
This is a problem of medicine. We want the top care, all the diagnostic whistles and treatment. But all of that care requires research, training, and technology. The people of this nation seem to reject any kind of government interference in healthcare, therefore market forces prevail. No one wants “socialized” medicine, but everyone throws a fit when they get a bill from our “capitalistic” system.
