Odd motivation.

It is odd how certain events motivate people to want to change themselves. For example my mother has never shown an interest in loosing weight or eating healthy. For some reason last week she was talking to me about diets for quick weight loss. This struck me as odd because she has never mentioned this before. It turned out that she and my father have planned a trip and she wants to loose weight before going on it. The more I thought about it the stranger I found a trip as a motivation for loosing weight. Why would be around nothing but strangers that you will never see again cause you to want to loose weight? I could care less what strangers think of me. You would think a person would be motivated to loose weight when their doctor says they need to do so or to improve their health. Instead of wanting to live a longer life for family and friends it is instead strangers that motivate us? I have noticed this is true with many people. We are motivated by public occasions rather than personal connections. Am I the only one that finds this odd?
